Before the end of the Twentieth Century, the idea of a steel building was associated primarily with warehouses, garages, and barns. The choice to use metal as a building material was not considered suitable for many other building projects. Times have changed so drastically that buildings made primarily of metal are not only an alternative to consider, but are typically preferred in many cases.

Modern building materials (including insulation and finishing products) have made it so that entities such as offices, churches, retail stores, manufacturing plants, and even sports arenas are best suited to be created out of steel. Steel makes them, above all, cheaper to build, because much of the construction work is done in house (wherever building materials are manufactured).

There are several benefits that go with choosing commercial steel buildings. The number one is the drastically lower costs. There is a reduction in the amount of labor required to construct steel buildings, which decreases costs by at least 30 percent of what one would pay for traditional construction methods.

Speed is another advantage. Typically it would take approximately six months to fully construct a building. A commercial steel building can be in operation in sixty days. Also, depending on who manufacturers the parts, a steel building can last up to thirty years without needing to be repainted, or requiring other maintenance.

When it comes to expansion, metal buildings can be modified at any time. Architects can even combine metal with wood, glass, and masonry exteriors to give commercial steel buildings a more sophisticated design. Modern commercial steel buildings can be cosmetically enhanced to suit specific tastes, but practical purposes, and legal codes are things to consider when making these decisions. Most steel building suppliers are unwilling to give customers buildings that do not meet their area’s codes, which works to the buyer’s benefit when one is not fully knowledgeable of these things.

Steel is a strong, durable, versatile tool, which makes it an ideal building material.
